How to Make a Solar Powered Phone Charger?

Since 1839, utilizing the power of sunlight has increased incredibly. Today, through using this natural resource, we can meet many of our needs. One of the greatest inventions that utilize the sunlight to work is the solar powered chargers.

You can’t always rely on the electricity, especially during natural calamities. At those time for charging your phone, solar-powered chargers are useful. Nowadays you can easily get them at your nearby shops.

If you can’t find it at your nearby shops, don’t worry, you can easily make one through some materials.

Without further delay, let me tell you the list of materials you need and also the steps that will guide you to make a solar-powered phone charger.

Materials Required

The materials that you will require to make a solar powered charger can be categorized into two types.

Tools

  • Glue gun
  • Solder iron
  • Solder
  • Wire strippers
  • Toothpick
  • Double gum tape

Parts

  • A solar cell
  • Portable charger
  • USB hub
  • Cables
  • A battery pack
  • Flux
  • Heat shrink tubing

Steps of Making

If you follow the following steps, you can easily manufacture a solar-powered charger all by yourself. The steps are:

Step 1

First of all, you need to expose the “lead” i.e. the copper wires for which you need to take the solar power panels containing black and red wires. Cut the wires in about 1 inch and then cut the ¼ inch plastic from the wire tip.

Step 2

Take the heat shrink tubes for insulating and protecting the wires from the external environment. Cut them into equal pieces where each piece is equivalent to 1 inch. Thus the black cables are to be slid by the tubing.

Step 3

Paint the lead of a red wire from one solar panel and from other panel paint a black wire’s lead by flux using a toothpick.

Step 4

Unite the two pieces of painted lead by using a solder and a soldering iron.

Step 5

Slide the small heat shrink tubing over the leads that are soldered. To shrink the pipe, it should be heated with the glue gun.

Step 6

Cut the wire from the old charger and from the loose end take off the plastic. Again, each cable is to be reduced to expose the lead and slide the large heat shrink tubing into this primary wire for later use.

Step 7

Cover the red lead of your main wire by the small heat shrink tubing. The loose ends of all the cables are to be painted with flux.

Step 8

Solder the red leads of the solar panel and the main wiretogether. Then cover and heatthem to shrink. The same thing is to be done in case of black wires.

Step 9

After doing all the above steps, you need to test the charger. Connect the charger with your phone under the bright light or the sunlight to check whether the phone is charging or not.

Step 10

Cover the two soldered leads of the main wires that are connected to the solar panel through a massive heat shrink tubing, and as usual, you need to heat the pipe for shrinking.

Step 11

Cover the back of the solar panels through a double-sided tape. Tap the two solar panels into a tin and tighten the wires into a case. Lastly, all you need to charge the charger keeping it outside under the sunlight for making it ready as your phone charger.

Charger Pack

The charger that you can make through following the above steps is a bit difficult to use while moving. For your convenience, you can make a charger pack so that you can use the charger while travelling.

Likewise, you can use a good box with two cases for the charger pack. The charger you can keep in one case and the batteries in another case. You can use a sticky back Velcro to attach both.

However, make a hole in the box to connect the charger and the . You can keep the charger with the phone in any pouch where your phone will be charging quickly and safely.

Conclusion

During emergencies like the power is cut off or during the time of natural disaster, the solar-powered charger is the only option that you can use for charging your phone.

You just need to boost up the charger through keeping it under the sunlight. Thus, following the above steps you can easily prepare the charger.
